Welcome to the website for the Grandparents’ Support Group for Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

Many people become carers of children from their extended families.  These days ,carers who look after their Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews etc, are often referred to as ‘Kinship Carers’.  Our group, which has been running for over eight years, focuses on providing support to Grandparents who are looking after their Grandchildren, although other Kinship Carers are always welcome.

People become Kinship Carers for lots of reasons including: incidents of violence, alcohol or drug misuse, mental illness, a death, separation, divorce or any combination of these.

Things are very different from when we brought up our children and it can seem very lonely at times, that's why we offer each other encouragement and support.

Our meetings are informal and we gain tremendous support from others who have gone through the same experiences.

Discussions include: contact, finances, behaviour management, school and health issues. We also have speakers covering subjects such as: benefits, dealing with social services, education, mental health and how to keep the children for whom we care safe from drugs and alcohol.
