Past News & Events > 19th November 2013 - visit from David Roth, (Policy Adviser Family & Friends Care) from the Family Rights Group.

David Roth from Family Rights Group (FRG) visited us today.  This was David’s third visit during the seven years that we have been meeting.  During the morning he answered a number of questions about the challenges, which we face as Kinship Carers.

David gave us some background information on FRG, which was established in 1974 and will be celebrating its fortieth birthday next year.  (Watch this space for further details.)  FRG has a free advice line on 0808 801 0366, which is available from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm for support, expert advice and detailed legal information.

David also told us about the funding that he has been given by FRG to extend their advice service by providing information and advice about education to family and friends carers.  We were able to give our thoughts on topics that might be of interest to family and friends carers and words that would benefit from being defined in a glossary.

We were also pleased to hear that FRG have been given lottery funding to enable Chris Leaves to continue her work of setting up groups like ours all over the country.  It is really good news to know that Chris can continue with this, as she was instrumental in the setting up of our group.

David gave us the links to the government’s websites for SGO Allowance and Foster Carers Allowance.  This is a recommendation by the government; it does not mean that this is what every local authority does.  We were unaware of this information.  It will be a useful tool for those who are eligible.
